CGU Life
Formed through the merger of Commercial Union and General Accident, CGU was the
United Kingdom’s largest composite insurer. It is now part of the worldwide AVIVA
Group. The Life business was created to exploit the cost savings arising from the
merger to strengthen its already dominant market position.
Collinson Grant’s work with CGU Life was to formulate and implement frameworks for
competitive pay and conditions. This has embraced reviews of grading structures
and rates of pay and the design of financial incentives for sales managers and staff.
Building a close partnership with senior managers in the business was an integral
part of our approach.
Our task was to devise and test initiatives that reinforce the ambitious plans for
growth and assure proper control of costs in a highly competitive employment market.
